In memory

The late Mick O’Hagan remembered by Kevin McDonald. Anyone who knew Mick realised they had met an exceptional guy. He was always cheerful and ready with a song. He had a great voice, a wonderful smile and always a pleasant word. He was 86 and was one of 14 children raised in a two-room cottage in Old Mountain, Buncrana. Raised with little or nothing, he made it in the world by sheer hard work and talent. I remember him especially for his kindness and craic and for his lovely singing voice. He used to be one of the group that would visit the Nazareth House on Wednesday evenings, along with Frank and Teresa Doherty, Willie Breslin and a few others to entertain the residents of that fine place. He got as much enjoyment from it as it gave others. May he rest in peace and may his family be consoled by having him as their own.

Sympathy

Sympathy is offered to the family and friends of Eunan Hegarty, Bonemaine, Bridgend who sadly passed away recently.

Eunan was a very well known and liked figure around Bridgend and further afield. He was widely known as ‘The TV Man’ and had a great and passionate knowledge of the technological.

Eunan was the reference point for those who had any query or quibble with their television. He greeted everyone with a smile and a hello and was glad to help.

Eunan was 72 years of age and had recently returned from a dream trip to India. His sudden death greatly shocked and saddened the entire community.

The huge crowd who attended his wake and funeral reflected the great esteem in which Eunan was held in the area.

He will be very much missed.

Sympathy is offered to Christine, his brothers Michael, Brendan and Kenneth, his sisters Rosemary, Patricia and Valerie, nieces, nephews, extended family circle and friends.

Football

Next Sunday evening will see Redcastle United. face Moville Celtic in the final of the League Cup at Greencastle. If you are going to the match please make sure you buy your ticket from the club rather than paying at the gate, as the club have a lot of tickets to sell for this match. This Final is a re-run of the Fr. O’Gara cup final from 15 years ago when Redcastle emerged victorious by one goal to nil. It will be nice to see as many players from that double winning team of 1993 as possible at the game that evening. No doubt everyone will still have fond memories of that match to share and chat about.  Two of the main talking points will most likely be the fantastic 35th minute goal that all 3 officials missed go through the hole in the net, as well as the Ronaldo like upending of our striker in the box that led to the winning penalty.

The underage season is now up and running, probably a month too early for most pitches in the Peninsula. Parents please make sure you know when training sessions and matches begin and end in order to ensure all players are dropped off and picked up on time. If any player still has not registered then please do so before the season begins. There are ticket sheets available for any underage player who wants to sell them in order help pay for the purchase of club tops. Ask at the club, and ensure you return the monies before you order your top.

Notes Anyone who would like to put anything into the Redcastle notes please conatct  074 9382374 thank you.
