Car Wash
The Car Wash in aid of the Neo Natal Units of the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin, Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, and Letterkenny General Hospital will be held on Saturday next, 1st July at Supervalu, Carndonagh. All cars will be washed for €5 from 10a.m – 6p.m.

Charity Dance
A Charity Dance in aid of the Inishowen Cancer Support Group will be held in the Malin Hotel on Friday 3rd August. Music is by Inishowen’s Smokey and the Bandits. Dancing is from 11p.m. – 2a.m. Admission is €5. Special guests Alastair Coyles and John Mc Geoghegan. Tickets now on sale or pay at the door. Door prizes and raffle on the night.

Glen Rovers
The Underage team training sessions will continue weekly, U-14 on Wednesday evening at Glengad, U-16 & U-18 On Monday evenings at Malin Head U-12s moved to Thursday evening Glengad. Training begins at 7.30pm each day, Bus to Glengad leaves Malin Town at 6.45pm, Malin Head 7pm and Glen 7.10pm,bus to Malin Head leaves Malin Town 6.45pm,Glengad 7pm and Glen at 7.10pm.The cost of the training is €2 and will be payable on the night of training. The U-10s training will continue this Thursday at 6.30pm and will be held at Malin Head Community Sports Field this group will be entering into the Inishowen leagues Summer Soccer Blitz in August. The Bus will pick up players at Malin Town 6.00pm. Glengad 6.15pm, Glen at 6.25pm.

Fundraising draw
Malin Head Community and Sports Field committee are running a Private Members Draw to raise funds for a new Club House, with a weekly jackpot of €500. The weekly winner of the Jackpot for week ending 24th June 2007 was ticket number 106, held by Colm Kelly, (Junior), Drim, Malin Head. Congratulations Colm! The committee wish to extend their thanks to the community for their continued support. Next week’s draw will be held in the Crossroads Inn, Malin Head on Sunday the 1st July at 9p.m.

Malin Raft Race
The annual Malin Raft Race will be held at Malin Bridge on 29th July at 5.30p.m., together with Fun and Frolics, ducks and music on the Village Green. Also major attraction Try a Dip by True North Diving Club. Treasure Hunt on 5th August, from 4p.m. – 7p.m., followed by a Disco in the Malin Hotel by Highland Radio’s top DJ Martin Friel. The committee would like to stress the need for more volunteers.

Death
The untimely death has taken place at his home on 25th May of Denis Doherty, Carnmalin, Malin Head. He had been ill for a short time. Denis, who was affectionately known as Wee Denis, was a pleasant man with a smile and a word for everyone. His love of dancing gained him friends across Inishowen. He was a farmer up until his retirement. Denis was a member of the well known Doherty (Big Denis) family from Carnmalin, whose parents were Big Denis and Rosie (nee Ned), Gortnamullan.
Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr. Peter Deeney, C.C. in the Star of the Sea Church, Malin Head. Fr. Brian Brady also assisted. Interment took place in Lagg Cemetery.
Deepest sympathy is extended to Denis’ family: to his sisters: Brigid Longshaw, Manchester; Margaret Mc Keown, Dublin; Mary Patterson, Manchester; Kathleen Doherty, Buncrana; Frances Toland, Clonmany; and Helena Doherty, Derry; his brothers John Doherty, Carnmalin, Malin Head; and Paddy Doherty, Australia; his many cousins, nieces and nephews and extended family circle; neighbours and friends. Denis was pre-deceased just two weeks earlier on 9th May by his sister Betty Mc Conkey, Dublin.

Mass for the Sick
A Mass for the Sick will be held in the Star of the Sea Church, Malin Head on Sunday 24th June at 3p.m. All those who would like to receive the Sacrament of the Sick are welcome. Tea will be served afterwards in the Hall by the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Marriage
The wedding has taken place on Saturday 26th May in the Star of the Sea Church, Malin Head, of Rose Doherty and Philip Farren. Rose is the youngest daughter of John and Mary Doherty (Briney), Westown, Malin Head, and Philip is the son of Daniel and Eileen Farren, Cashel, Gleneely. The bride was given away by her father John and attended by her sister Claire Mc Daid as matron of honour. The best man was Donal Farren, brother of the groom. The pretty flower girl was the bride’s godchild and niece, Kerri Mc Daid. The Lessons were read by the groom’s sisters Helen Farren and Margaret Doherty. The Prayers of the Faithful were led by the bride’s cousin Jo-Anne Mc Callion. The Offertory Gifts were presented by the aunt of the groom Peggy Dwyer and the bride’s godmother Mary Doherty.
Afterwards an enjoyable reception was held in the Ballyliffin Hotel. The honeymoon was spent touring.

Report Corncrakes
Birdwatch Ireland’s Donegal Corncrake fieldworker, Sandy Alcorn is appealing to members of the public to report hearing the call of corncrakes to the Corncrake Helpline on 074 9165117. In recent years Donegal has become the Corncrake Capital of the country, holding 108 calling males last year, which is a huge two thirds of the national corncrake population. Members of the public are requested to report the calling birds, even if they think someone else may have already reported it.

First Communion
First Communion was held in the Star of the Sea Church, Malin Head on Saturday 26th May.  Mass was celebrated by Fr. Peter Deeney.  The Lessons were read by parents Caitriona Doherty and Tommy Mullin.  The Offertory Gifts and Prayers of the Faithful were presented by the children.  The choir was led by JulieAnne Devlin and comprised of the beautiful voices of children.  Children in second class in Urblereagh N.S. who made their first Communion were Andrew Mullin, Shaun Lafferty, Eoin Rudden, John Doherty (R), and Aaron Mc Laughlin; and in St. Mary’s N.S. Rosie Doherty (B.), Megan Toland, Aoife Walsh, Lauren O’Connor, John Doherty B.), Oisin O’Doherty, Cormac Doherty (D.), Joseph Doherty (P.M.), Conor Keane, and Matthew Harley.

Youth Club Presentation
Malin Head Youth Club held its Annual Presentation and Disco on Friday night last, 25th May.  This was the last youth club night of the season, and also the last night in the present hall.   Master of Ceremonies on the night was Ali Farren.  The awards for the various activities were presented by Fr. Peter.  A Disco was held afterwards with DJ Ali, while the parents had a cup of tea.  The Youth Club committee wish to express their thanks to the sponsors of the awards: James Houghton Construction, Jim Mullin Plumbing and Heating, Ardmalin Caravan Park, Forward Emphasis, and John Doherty (D.O.), Cavan.  Thanks to all those who attended the presentation and to the people who donated food.
The Youth Club is now finished for the Summer, but a fortnightly Disco will be held during the months of July and August.  The thanks of the parents goes to the hardworking committee.

The Sacrament of Confirmation was conferred by Bishop Hegarty on sixth class pupils in the parish of Malin on Thursday 17th May in the Star of the Sea Church, Malin Head.  Sixth class pupils from Urblereagh N.S. who made their confirmation were Catherine Gallagher, Karen Mc Laughlin, Christopher Mc Laughlin and Philip Kirby.  Sixth class pupils in St. Mary’s N.S., Malin Head were Seamus Houghton, Aaron Mc Daid, Shaun Mc Laughlin and Keiran O’Connor.
