Christmas Bazaar
The Clonmany NS Parents Committee presents a Christmas Bazaar in St. Mary’s Hall, Clonmany on Sunday December 2 at 5pm after the lighting of Christmas lights in the Square. The Bazaar will feature handcrafts made by the children of Clonmany School. There will also be bric-a-brac; home-baking; the good ole rickety wheel with many fantastic prizes. There will also be a special appearance of Santa and his fire-engine. All proceeds in aid of new school equipment. Light refreshments will be served.

The James Connolly Day Centre
The Day centre will have a table at the car boot sale on Saturday December 1. There will be home made Christmas cakes and puddings, flower arrangements, bric-a-brac etc. and tickets will be on sale for a beautiful Christmas Hamper. Your support for this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.

Mass for Deceased members
Ballyliffin Golf Club will hold its annual mass for Deceased members in the Clubhouse on Friday November 30 at 7pm.

Christmas Swim
The 10th Annual Swim at Leenan Beach will take place on Christmas morning at 10am in aid of the Children’s Ward and Nursery at Letterkenny Hospital and the Donegal Down’s Syndrome Association. Table Quiz
Urris GAA will be holding a table quiz in the Rusty Nail on Friday evenings starting on December 7. Every week there will be a ticket for the Club’s Development draw on offer to the winning team. Make sure to come along early to get a good table. The quiz will start around 9.30pm so gather your team up now and get swotting in preparation.

Child Protection Course
Any adult who hopes to be involved in the management of youth/school teams or the supervision of any underage activities – soccer, gaelic, athletics, national school teams, youth club activities etc is required to hold a Child Protection Certificate. An opportunity for anyone interested in acquiring such a certificate is due to be held in St. Brigid’s Youth club on Tuesday December 11 at 7pm. The entire course will be delivered on the night. Information session
Leargas is holding an information session on funding available under the Grundtvig Adult Education Programme on Tuesday 18th December at 12noon in the Inishowen Partnership offices (CAIT Suite). The session will introduce and explain activities available for funding under Grundtvig, it will also explain the application procedures to participate in these activities

25 Card Drive
St. Brigid’s Boxing Club will hold a 25 Card Drive in Ballyliffin Golf Club on Friday, November 30 at 8pm. Tickets 10 euro each and there will be a supper served.

Resource Centre
Fitness Class for women Monday morning from 10 to 11am everybody welcome. Circuit training continues on Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 8pm. This is followed by men’s circuit training from 8.30 to 9.30pm. The car boot sale will take place on Saturday, December 1 from noon to 4pm. Clonmany Tug-o-war Club
Clonmany Tug-o-war Club currently have tickets on sale for their annual draw. 1st prize: 12,000 euro; 2nd prize: 3,000 euro;; 3rd prize: 1,000 euro; plus many more great prizes. Confirmation and Communion dates

Bishop Hegarty will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation in St Mary’s Church on Saturday, April 19 at 11am. First Holy Communion will take place in St Michael’s Church, Urris on Sunday, May 11 at 10:30am; in the Oratory, Ballyliffin on Saturday, May 17 at 11am and in St Mary’s Church, Clonmany on Saturday, May 24 at 11am.

Road works

Councillr Pádraig MacLochlainn would like to let it be known that a number of road safety measures have been approved funding and are to be undertaken in the near future in the Clonmany parish. Traffic islands are to be installed at Cleagh outside the nursing homes and vision lines at the junction from Cloontagh on to the main R238 are to be attained. 35,000 eurohas been approved for works at the Dunaff PO and a further €100,000 has also been allocated to the completion of the pavement at Chapel Glen. Councillor MacLochlainn would like to acknowledge the support of his colleague Councillor Denis McGonagle in securing this very necessary funding. There are further issues being addressed such as the Mintiagh and Mindoran bends, as well as additional traffic calming at Cloontagh and Rasheney schools.

Craft Studio
Glendowen Craft Studio, Meentagh Glen, Clonmany will host an open day on Saturday July 28 from 12 – 5pm in support of the James Connolly Hospital, Carndonagh. The highlights of the day will include the “Journeymen” Craft Group demonstrating old hand skills, Martin Maloney and his Birds of prey and Fergus Gibson, Astrologer of RTE fame. Everyone is welcome. Disability Action Group
Are you interested in seeing some of the sights around Donegal and the North West? The Inishowen Disability Action Group, Millbrae, Carndonagh is organising day trips to places of interest for people with disabilities. These trips will take place mid-week to popular places, such as the Ulster/American Folk Park, Dunlewey Heritage Centre, Dunree Fort, Glenveigh National Park, the Giant’s Causeway and Garten/Ards/Doon Well, to name but a few. The mini-bus is wheelchair accessible and can accommodate 2 wheelchair users and 5 passengers or 8 passengers. Trips will be organised subject to demand. The cost of each trip will be kept to a minimum and will not include meals. Agricultural Show
Next big event is the Agricultural Show on Tuesday, 7th August. This is always a great day out for all the family. Horses, Ponies, Donkeys, Cattle, Sheep, Sheepdog trials, Home Industries, Fruit & Vegetables, Plants & flowers, Baking and Jams, Knitting & Crochet, Dressmaking & Handcrafts, Children’s Baking & Handcrafts. There will be a full afternoon programme, including fun sections for Ponies & Horses, Best Dressed Lady, Children’s Pet Show, Dog Show (£600 Prize Fund). All entries must be accompanied by entry fee – horses and cattle €5 per entry, sheep €3 per entry and home industries €1 per entry. Entries close on Monday, 23rd July. Charity Dance
There will be a dance in support of the Inishowen Cancer Support Group in the Malin Hotel on Friday August 3 featuring Inishowen Smokie with special guest, Ballymoney’s answer to Big Tom, Alistair Coyles, as well as Donegal’s No1 Accordion John McGeoghan. Dancing is from 11pm to 2.00am and admission is €5 available on the door on the night of the dance. Tickets are also available from outlets throughout Inishowen.

Junior Festival Queen
The Junior Festival Queen disco will take place on Sunday, July 29 in St Mary’s Hall, Clonmany. The disco runs from 9pm to 11pm.

Community Library
Carndonagh Community Library hopes to facilitate the children of the area during July and August by hosting activities for these two months. Starting on Tuesday 17th July with the readathon-’Sea read’. The children must call to the library to register for this activity and it will then be explained to them. There are no winners or losers everyone who registers will receive a Certificate in early September. Starting Wednesday 18th July and continuing each Wednesday morning from 11.00a.m.-12.00pm- Activities for children aged 4-7. Starting Friday 20th July and continuing each Friday morning from 11.00a.m. – 12.00pm – Activities for children aged 8 and upwards.

Urris Summer Camp
A big thank you to all the coaches and helpers who made the Summer camp such a success last week. More than a hundred children came along to the camp and there were rave reviews all round even though the weather did its best to spoil things.
The years drawn last week in the Urris Match and Win were: 1968, 1973, 1980, and1982. There was no winner of the Jackpot which is now €1,220.

The Clonmany Parents Committee Ceili Mor

The Clonmany Parents Committee will be holding a Ceili in Clonmany Hall on Friday July 6 after the Bingo to raise vital funds for the equipment and furniture for new school.

Everyone is encouraged to come along and support this event.

It’s a bit of fun and all money raised is going towards our new school. At their recent Car Boot sale the committee raised €1,108.80 and would like thank everyone for their support and generosity on the day.

Summer School
The tenth McGlinchey Summer School begins on the morning of Friday June 29 with a trip on the Buncrana Ferry across the Swilly to Rathmullan to commemorate the Flight of the Earls. Assemble at Buncrana Pier at 10am. The official opening takes place at 7.30pm that evening in the Community Centre. Everyone is more than welcome to come along. On Thursday June 28 Radio Na Gaeltachta will broadcast a live programme from the Community Centre between 11am and 12 noon. Anyone interested in taking part must arrive at the Centre by 10:30am. We wish every success to The McGlinchey Summer School with their variety of events to suit everyone. This weekend sees the Sponsored Walk/Run in support of the appeal for Alan Doherty the Donegal teenager who was born with an extremely rare condition which has left him without a chin. Alan has already travelled to New York to have preparatory surgery performed to enable him have a chin. Urris Clean Up
The Urris Local History Group, in conjunction with Donegal County Council, is placing skips in four locations throughout Urris. They will be placed at Leenan Beach car Park, Urris Church Car Park, Tiernasligo N.S. and Roxtown. The Skips are part of a clean-up attempt to keep the Urris area tidy. A fundraising draw for this cause will take place on Saturday June 30 and tickets are currently on sale throughout the parish. Support for this worthwhile local cause will be greatly appreciated.

Post Leaving Certificate
The Post Leaving Certificate Department (PLC) is offering a course in Business Administration with
Tourism in the academic year 07/08 (FETAC LEVEL 5). The course consists of modules in Administration, Word and Text Processing, Accounting Spreadsheets, Databases and Communications. Work placement in local business firms is also included. PLC students may also repeat Leaving Certificate Maths while doing this course. Mature students can also apply. Students who complete PLC courses will greatly improve their chances of gaining direct employment or progressing to Third Level education. Successful completion of our course this year may allow students to gain direct entry to Business degree courses in Institutes of Technology such as LYIT irrespective of their Leaving Certificate results. VHI Cúl Camp
This year’s GAA Summer Camp will take place on the week of July 9 to July 13. Once again VHI are sponsoring the camps and all children participating will receive a specially designed O’Neill’s kit and kitbag at the end of the week. The children will learn football, hurling and camogie skills from the best coaches in the County, as well as getting the chance to meet some of the Donegal National League winning team when they bring the trophy to the camp. This year’s camp will cost €60 for the first child and €40 per child after that. To ensure your child’s place at the camp make sure you book early. Clonmany Community Games
Well done to all the children from the Parish who competed in the Donegal finals of the Community Games last Sunday in Milford. Five competitors came away with Gold medals on the day; Austin Doherty for the u8’s hurdles; Luke Devlin, u8’s 80m; David McLaughlin for the u12’s 100m; Stephen Friel for the u14’s 100m; Conor Collins u16’s 100m. The lads will now compete in the Community Games all Ireland finals in Mosney. Silver medallists on the day included; Connie-Ann Hession in the u12 600m; Conor Collins, Andrew Doherty, Daithí Hession and Kevin McCarron for the u16 relay; Kevin McCarron for the high jump. Bronze medals were won by Andrew Doherty for the u16 discus; Connie-Ann Hession, Paula McLaughlin, Marie Harkin and Gráinne Hession for the u12 girls relay; David McLaughlin, Aaron Devlin, Michael Devlin and Gary Doherty for the u12 boys relay. Well done again to all our competitors and to all the helpers and parents who travelled to Milford to watch and support them.

Upcoming events; On Saturday June 9 there will be a Car boot sale in the Clonmany N.S. Playground. On Friday July 6 in the Clonmany Hall there will be a Ceili Mor. Everyone is urged to come along and support these events. It’s a bit of craic and all money raised is going towards the essential equipment and furniture for our new school.

Clonmany Agricultural Show
There will be a Committe meeting in The Ballyliffin Hotel on Tuesday May 29 at 9pm. The Grant Golf Classic on the Old Links at the Ballyliffin Golf Club on Saturday June 16. There is €3,500 in prizes which have been kindly sponsored by the Ballyliffin Hotel. For more details contact Ballyliffin Golf Club.

Urris Clean-Up
The Urris Local History Group, in conjunction with Donegal County Council, are placing skips in four locations throughout Urris. They will be placed at Leenan Beach car Park, Urris Church Car Park, Tiernasligo N.S. and Roxtown. The Skips are part of a clean-up attempt to keep the Urris area tidy. A fundraising draw for this cause will take place on June 30 and tickets are currently on sale throughout the parish. Support for this worthwhile local cause will be greatly appreciated.

VHI Cúl Camp
This year’s GAA Summer Camp will take place on the week of July 9 to July 13. Once again VHI are sponsoring the camps and all children participating will receive a specially designed O’Neill’s kit and kitbag at the end of the week. The children will learn football, hurling and camogie skills from the best coaches in the County, as well as getting the chance to meet some of the Donegal National League winning team when they bring the trophy to the camp. This year’s camp will cost €60 for the first child and €40 per child after that. To ensure your child’s place at the camp make sure you book early. Application forms should have been given to all children at school over the past week but are also obtainable by calling John Friel on 9376533.

The Four Charity Golf Classic
The will be a Golf Classic at Ballyliffin Golf Club, with over €3,000 in prizes, on Friday, June 1, in aid of four local charities, Inishowen Disability Action Group, Inishowen Women’s Outreach, White Oaks, Radharc Na Sleibhte SRU Carndonagh. PLC Course

PLC Course in Carndonagh Community School
The Post Leaving Certificate Department (PLC) is offering a course in Business Administration with
Tourism in the academic year 07/08 (FETAC LEVEL 5). The course consists of modules in Administration, Word and Text Processing, Accounting Spreadsheets, Databases and Communications. Work placement in local business firms is also included. PLC students may also repeat Leaving Certificate Maths while doing this course. Mature students can also apply. Students who complete PLC courses will greatly improve their chances of gaining direct employment or progressing to Third Level education. Successful completion of our course this year may allow students to gain direct entry to Business degree courses in Institutes of Technology such as LYIT irrespective of their Leaving Certificate results. Students may also progress to degree courses in other disciplines. Applications forms are available in the school, or by calling 9374260.

Clonmany Youth Club and Community Centre

Clonmany Youth and Community Centre, in collaboration with Inishowen Partnership Company, Tuath and Letterkenny Institute of Technology, is delighted to announce plans to deliver the Higher Certificate of Arts in Communities Studies in Inishowen. Subject to numbers, the course is planned for September 2007 and will run over two years based in Clonmany. An information evening will take place on Wednesday, May 23rd at 7.30pm at the Clonmany Youth and Community Centre. This will give people an opportunity to meet members of LYIT’s staff and learn more about the course. Recycling Awareness

Susanne Tinney, Donegal County Council Recycling Awareness Officer was at the Library last night to give tips on how to recycle and use your compost. Gareth Austin, leading Horticulturist from the Courtyard Lifestyle Centre will give a talk on seasonal planting and this will be followed by a massive plant sale. On Thursday May 31, from 8.00pm – 9.30pm, Looking good – Feeling Good, Danielle Toner, Image Consultant will visit the library to talk about the importance of self-image. She will give tips on what colours and style would suit you. Danielle has a weekly column in the Inishowen Independent. All events are free of charge and everyone is welcome.
