Give blood! The blood transfusion service will be in Carndonagh Community School on Wednesday, October 17 from 3pm – 4.45pm and 7pm – 9.30pm on Thursday, October 18 from 2pm-4.45pm and 7-9pm.

The committee of Carndonagh Toy Sale wishes to announce that there will be no toy sale this year. Instead there will be a flower show, with the flower designer Michael Doherty ICFS, Buncrana.
Michael teaches and demonstrates locally and produces magnificent wedding designs. This will be the only show Michael will perform in this area before Christmas. The Flower Show will take place in the Strand Hotel on Thursday, November 22 at 8pm. 
All proceeds will go direct to local people working in Third World Countries, tickets are 10 euro, which includes a draw for a magnificent Hamper and can be had from any committee member or by phoning 93 74706.  Please support this worthy cause.

Year Book
The Year Book of St. Patrick’s Girls’ N.S. is now available for perusal at the Community Library. Included is a piece of writing from every child in the school as well as a photo diary of whole-school events for the past school year. Also on display is the school’s Logbook entry into the Discover
Primary Science project which earned the school an Award of Science Excellence. Creative Writing Books from various classes are also exhibited.

Wedding
The beautiful wedding took place in Sacred Heart Church Carndonagh of Teresa McLaughlin and Raymond Porter, Teresa daughter of Paddy and Celia McLaughlin of Kinnaglug. The Groom, son of Bridie and late John Porter of Skeoge Bridgend. The Nuptial Mass was celebrated by Fr. Conn McLaughlin. The bride was attended by her two sisters Sarah Doherty Frances McGeoghan, the best men were Declan Porter, Liam Porter brothers of the groom. The flower girl was Ellie Doherty, niece of the bride. The lessons were read by Michael McLaughlin, brother of the bride. And Noreen McLaughlin, Sister of groom. The Gifts were brought to the altar by Celia & Bridie, mothers of bride and groom. The music in church was provided by Johanne Doherty. The reception in Ballyliffin and honeymoon in Cyprus.

Carn FC
The U/12 ‘A’ team finished their season with a tremendous 2-0 win over St Mary’s in St Patrick’s Park on Sunday morning. Two goals from Nathan Doherty sealed a great team performance that puts them level on points with Buncrana at the top of the league table with all matches played. There will now be a play-off between the two clubs sometime after next weekend to decide who wins the league. The U/14 ‘A’-team drew 2-2 away to Dunree with goals from Darren Burke and Caomhin Canny. The U/16’s scored eight away to Greencastle to keep them in contention in the second division. A hat-trick from Shane Doherty and two apiece from Darragh Canny and Ronan Doherty plus a goal from Paul Stevens made this an easy run out for the team as the game ended 8-1. Their last game of the season takes place next Wednesday at home to Moville. The U/18 team were playing away at Oxygen so their game was called off.

Desert Detectives’ is a Holiday Club for children of National School age. The Club will be run in the new Greenbank Hall at Quigley’s Point from Monday 2nd July to Friday 6th July. It was a quiet week in St Patrick’s Park as there were no youth or ladies matches being played due to the exam break and the Kennedy Cup competition. This week will see the start of the second half of the league where new divisions are created based on every teams placing in the first half of the season. At the club’s recent A.G.M there were two new positional changes on the committee. Enda Doherty will take over as club treasurer while Liam Gilmore takes over the job of P.R.O.

Suicide awareness

However, it is best if people attending ASIST have had some prior opportunity through ‘suicide awareness sessions’ to explore the issue of suicide. There is no charge for anyone attending ASIST.

PLC Course
Carndonagh Community School is offering a course in Business Administration with Tourism in the academic year 07/08 (FETAC LEVEL 5). The course consists of modules in Administration, Word and Text Processing, Accounting, Spreadsheets, databases and Communications. Work placement in local business firms is also included. PLC students may also repeat Leaving Certificate Math while doing this course. Mature students can also apply. Students who complete PLC Course will greatly improve their chances of gaining direct employment or progressing to Third Level education. Successful completion of our course this year may allow students to gain direct entry to Business degree courses in Institutes of Technology such as LYIT irrespective of their Leaving Certificate results. Students may also progress to degree courses in other disciplines. Application forms with further information are available by phoning the school at 9374260.

Spanish Students
There has been a tremendous response from local families interested in hosting the Spanish students who will arrive in Carndonagh on July 1st to stay for 4 weeks. However, we still have 4 boys and 3 girls to place, as well as a few students for August, so we would be delighted to hear from anyone else who may be interested. Most students attend school 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. daily and there is an all-day excursion each Saturday. Children from host families are welcome to join in the afternoon recreational activities, as well as the Saturday trips. Families will receive 175 euro per week and all sorts of families are welcome to apply, including those without children and those living outside the Carndonagh area.
