Carn FC
The first team had no match this weekend and their next fixture is on St Patrick’s Day at home to the Illies. This game is in fact the quarterfinal of the Credit Union cup and a big match for Carn as they hope to progress in this competition and extend their season as they only have a few matches remaining in the league. A large crowd is expected for this cup tie with a noon kick-off. The reserves also have an important cup match in the Fr O’Gara against Glengad reserves which had to be cancelled on Sunday due to the pitch being waterlogged and as yet are uncertain when this will now take place as the fixtures for next weekend have not yet been finalised. Training for the underage squads will commence this week as they start their preparation for the start of their league campaigns. The youth league usually gets underway in April so we need everyone present at training this week. The training times are as follows, U/14 girls train on Monday from 5pm to 6pm, U/12 boys and girls on Wednesday from 5-45pm to 7pm and U/14 boys on Thursday from 6-30pm to 8pm. The U/8 and U/10 squads will start training after the Easter holidays. The U/10 team travelled to Sligo at the weekend to compete in a regional blitz for U/10 winners. Team managers Paul Farren and Michael McEleney were happy with the team’s performances in their three matches but although they narrowly failed to qualify for the final, they will have gained much experience from competing at this level. Patrick McElhinney won the “First Score” last week, nice to see a seller rewarded now and again.
