The course consists of modules in Administration, Word and Text Processing, Accounting, Spreadsheets, Databases, and Communications. Work placement in local business firm is also included. PLC students may also repeat Leaving Certificate Maths while doing this course.

The course will be of interest to:

§       Students with a leaving cert who wish to progress to Third Level education but who have inadequate CAO points.

§       Individuals who wish to improve their chances of direct employment

§       Mature students wishing to return to education and gain a nationally recognised qualification.

Successful completions of our course this year may allow students to gain direct entry to Business degree courses in Institutes of Technology such as LYIT irrespective of their Leaving Certificate results. Students may also progress to degree courses in other disciplines,

In Ireland at present, up to three quarters of IT jobs advertised remain unfilled due to a shortage of skilled computer personnel. Since there are many computer modules on our course our students should have little difficulty in getting employment in this area.

Carn FC

With the first team’s match called off on Sunday, the focus was on the reserves O’Gara Cup quarter-final against Glengad. As this was the most important home match for the club at this stage of the season, everything possible was done to try and make the pitch playable, but the heavy rain of the weekend put paid to that and the team had to travel to Glengad to play the fixture.  So what was always going to be a tough game became even tougher, but undeterred the lads travelled and came away with a brilliant 4-1 result. The evergreen Paul Farren was the star of the show and even scored one himself. Other scorers were Dermot Doherty, John Doherty and Sean O’Donnell. They will now meet Buncrana Reserves in the semi-final. Training times for the youth squads are as follows; Wednesday U/8’s from 5-6,U/10 from 6-7’s U/12 from 7-8. On Monday girls U/14 from 5-6 and U/14 boys from 6.30-8pm. U/16’s train on Friday from 5.30-7pm. Will all players please bring runners. U/16’s have a friendly at home to Quigley’s Point on Thursday evening, players report for 6.30.

Carn FC

Workers did well to get their pitch into such fine condition for their Credit Union Cup tie against Illies on St Patrick’s Day after the recent heavy rain. In fact the weather was so good on the day that a good crowd turned out to see a tight game that went into extra time after ending 0-0, and on to penalties where the home side lost out by four goals to three. Carn certainly created the best chances during the coarse of the game but unfortunately failed to convert any of them. The reserves again had their match called off, as the pitch could not have withstood two matches on the same day. There is still a shortage of helpers for the U/8 and U/10 training on Wednesday evenings from 5pm to 6pm and 6pm to 7pm. With the likely increase in numbers, it is vital to have more help with super vision or some children may have to be turned away. Any parent who can give one hour, if only occasionally, please contact any youth committee member and help out with the great work going on in St Patrick’s Park. The Youth League will commence on April 14. The U/16 training started on Good Friday at 5.30pm. Please bring boots and runners. Niall McLaughlin was the recent winner in the First Score.
