The big-hearted people of Moville have dug deep into their pockets to aid the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
A night of song and dance in Moville Football Club’s clubhouse, organised by Denis McGuinness, Milanda and Gerard McCauley, raised Ä3,587 which rose to a total of Ä4,444 with contributions from customers in bars in the town, with all monies going directly to aid the victims through the Irish charity Trocaire.

She said: “The night of song and dance was provided by the generosity of many local talented musicians, including Breege Canning, Kathleen Butler, Raymond McGroarty, James McLaughlin, Billy Putt, Paddy McCartney, Connolly Folk, Ciaran Keogh, John McGeoghan and Denis McDaid.”
She added: “The organisers would like to thank the generosity of the Moville FC clubhouse committee for the use of their premises free of charge. Among the many people who we thank for their assistance are Joe Bredin, Paul Crumlish, Councillor Mickey Doherty, Garda Dermot Hegarty. Also all the ladies who helped with the tea and the back and not forgetting the men who collected the donations at the door on the evening.
“Many thanks to local business Mary D’s takeaway in Quigley’s Point for the donation of sandwiches and hot food. Not forgetting James McLaughlin for the donation of the hand-crafted wheelbarrow that was auctioned on the night.
“We would also like to thank the Strand Hotel in Ballyliffin for the donation of a voucher for a raffle and many more raffle donations on the evening.”
She added: “We would like to thank all who contributed in any way to the success of this very worthy cause and hope we have left no one out.”
