Inishowen’s most senior Garda has appealed for information in the fight against drugs.

Speaking at the first ever public meeting of the Buncrana Joint Policing Committee in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel in the town on Monday night last, Superintendent William Johnson revealed a Garda drugs unit was active in combating the drugs problem in the peninsula.

Stating Buncrana was “the same” as any other rural town when it came to drugs, Supt. Johnson said Gardai were “doing everything” they could to deal with the problem.

Appealing for information, he stressed any “intelligence” received on drug activity in the area would be “treated in the strictest confidence.”

Supt. Johnson was responding to a question from JPC chairperson, Joe Doherty, who asked “what was the situation  regarding drugs in Buncrana.”
