School's out in Clonmany… but the bids are in
Nostalgiac pupils of an Inishowen school are getting the chance to take a piece of the classroom home with them in a very unique auction.
Clonmany National School has a long history; the first school was built on the site in 1836 and over the last two centuries it was demolished, replaced and extended with the last refurbishment having been carried out in 1953.
Throughout the years many pupils have come and gone and the school holds many happy memories for those that went through its doors.
Now, tomorrow at 6.30pm on the school premises, there will be a chance to take home a keepsake of old school life to treasure for yourself.
Among the items for auction are nine cast iron radiators, 150 children’s chairs, six ‘teacher’ tables, blackboards and whiteboards, wash-hand basins, guttering and down pipes and fire extinguishers!
George Harkin, of the School Management Team said it is a fitting ‘finale’ for the old school.
“This is the finale for the old school,” he said.
“”We’re basically selling off what’s left of the old school and are asking everybody to come along and buy something in memory of the old school.”
So, if you have fond memories of Clonmany National School and would love to take a piece of the old school home with you, get bidding tomorrow evening!
The brand new school will be opening its doors in September to welcome back pupils old and new.
