Buncrana to get Ireland’s first Energy Design Centre
by Laura Glenn laura.glenn@inishtimes.com
Buncrana is set to get Ireland’s first-ever one-stop “Home Shopping Centre,” the “Inish Times” can reveal.
Forward-thinking and long-established local company, Flanagan’s of Buncrana Ltd, is to create a unique Home Design Centre at its 110,000 sq ft premises at Ballymacarry in the town.
The exciting new venture will see over 20 home-focused retailing and consultancy businesses relocate to the Buncrana location where they will sit side-by-side with Flanagan’s as the anchor tenant.
Promoting renewable energy, the new centre will be “a mecca of leading expertise in one space,” according to Christopher Flanagan, director of Flanagan’s of Buncrana.
He revealed the Home Design Centre, expected to launch early next year, would enable some of the best companies across the North West to “work together under one roof.”
He added: “The obvious advantage of this will be the combined marketing budget of all companies involved drawing customers from all over Ireland to the Home Design Centre.”
Businesses, both local and national, are grappling to get involved in the project with the majority of the spaces already allocated.
Mr. Flanagan revealed the new centre has been in the pipeline for over a decade.
He said: “There is nothing quite like this in Ireland. It is the brainchild of my father [Flanagan's of Buncrana Ltd owner] Brian Flanagan. He has talked about a home centre for over ten years and we are very excited it is now coming to fruition.
“The idea is that someone could come in to the Home Design Centre with working drawings for their home, find every product and service they need and also have access to excellent and vital expertise and advice as well as professional consultancy services. Buncrana will, in some ways, have its first enterprise park and the centre will also go a long way to securing jobs, which is vital in the current economic climate.
“We wanted to include a renewable energy section in the Home Design Centre as it is a fast-moving and dynamic concept which is becoming increasingly popular. Traditional energy sources are becoming very expensive so we feel there will be a shift towards the idea of renewable energy services and products in home design in the near future”
The Home Design Centre will provide windmills, solar panels, geothermal heating, insulation, double-glazing windows, swimming pools, luxury jacuzzis, contemporary and traditional fireplaces, bathrooms, kitchens, woodchip stoves, water filtration, flooring, curtains, stairs, conservatories, lighting, carpet, tiles, furniture, pianos, antiques, pictures, mirrors, garden furniture, doors, coffee dock, and many of these categories are now filled. Mr. Flanagan said he believed the Home Design Centre would be beneficial to Buncrana and Inishowen in the current economic climate.
He said: “Buncrana will, in some ways, have its first one-stop enterprise park providing everything you need for your home, the businesses involved will have the security of being involved in an exciting and innovative new project and the centre will also go a long way to securing jobs, which is vital in the current economic climate.”
Spaces are filling up fast and at present only a few remain. To get further information on this exciting new development contact Christopher Flanagan on: 00353 86 6094609 or 00353 7493 62000
