Faulkner wins Moville 10k

It was a hometown victory for Neil Faulkner in the Moville 10km on Saturday last as he secured his second consecutive victory in an impressive time of 35 minutes. This gave the Moville native a comfortable 11 second victory over fellow Letterkenny Athletics Club member Michael Black, with Sean McFadden third in 35.42. Faulkner also led home a record entry field of 52 finishers, with a further 11 athletes completing the 10k walk. Eleven juveniles took part in the 1 mile race.Theresa Mc Gloin was an equally impressive winner of the women’s race in 38.01, which gave the Finn Valley A.C. athlete seventh place overall. Letterkenny A.C. athlete Emer O’ Brien took second place in 41.02. Marina Campbell clinched third in 46.51.  Inishowen Athletics Club top finisher was Joe Mc Kinney, who ran strongly to take fifth place overall in 37.34. This also gave the Malin based athlete victory in the M40 masters’ section. Finbarr Gallagher was just one place behind in 37.54. Local athlete Peter White ran 42.55 to finish in twentieth place, with Buncrana based runner Vinnie Hegarty twenty first in 43.08. Owenie Mc Kinney was twenty third in 43.12. Carndonagh athlete Donal Doherty was second in the M 60 masters section in 53.21. Sarah Doherty was the first walker in 76 minutes and 28 seconds, while Ciaran Diver raced to victory in the juvenile 1 mile road race in 6 minutes and 13 seconds. Shane Skelly finished second in the U 13 category in 6.19, with Inishowen A.C. athlete Declan Donaghey third in 6.25. Anna Ryan finished first in the U 13 girls section in 9.32. Grace Carlton and Ronan Ward took victories in the U 15 age category in 9.08 and 6.15 respectively. A special word of thanks to race director Mike Aidie all who helped with the organization on the day. Thanks also to Moville Celtic Football Club for the use of their facilities and to the Waterfront for the refreshments afterwards. All proceeds from the race will go to the Donegal Hospice. Full list of results are available on www.inishowenac.com. Patrick Mc Laughlin completed his third Ironman triathlon in as many years on Sunday last in England with a finishing time of 12 hours and 42 minutes. The Carndonagh based physical therapist completed the grueling 2.5 mile swim, the 112 mile cycle and the 26.2 mile run despite very unsettled weather conditions. Up-Coming Events. The Waterside half marathon takes place this Saturday 13th September at 10.30 am from Gransha Park in Derry. Walkers start at 9.30 am. The Donegal 5km road championships take place on Sunday 21st September in Letterkenny at 11.30 am. Training for all juveniles in the Buncrana area takes place every Wednesday at the Leisure Centre from 7.00 – 8.00 pm. The Fit for Life and senior training continues every Tuesday from the Buncrana Leisure Centre at 6.30 pm. Athletics training for 8-12 year old juveniles will resume in Carndonagh Community School on Thursday 11th September from 5.00 – 6.00 pm. New members are very welcome to join.
