Inishowen will feature prominently for Donegal in this weekend’s ladies U16 Ulster final against Down. And manager Jimmy Griffen believes the Inishowen girls make up an important factor to his side.Ciara Hegarty, from Moville, will captain the Donegal side while Naomh McLaughlin and Leoni and Orlaith Furlong, also from Moville, and Keyla Farren, from Urris, also feature on the side.Ciara Hegarty was last year awarded the Ulster underage player of the year, becoming the first Donegal girl to receive the award.Mr Griffen said of his team’s captain: “In Ciara Hegarty we have a captain who can lead by example.“The result on the day will depend on her performance as a captain, but she is an exceptinally talented player.“She has shown herself to be extremely confident and I cannot praise her highly enough as a player.“Of the other Inishowen girls we have a group of hugely talented and exciting players and I’m sure that whatever the result, they will give it their all.”The Inishowen contingent on the team does not stop at the players however, as senior Moville ladies manager Davy McLaughlin acts as mentor and Eilish McDonald, a qualified nurse from Carndonagh, is the team physio.Donegal U16 ladies will play Down in the Ulster final at the Burren, Co. Down, on Friday 16 May, throw in at 7:30pm.
