Several hundred mourners attended the funeral of Brian McDaid, the 13-years-old St. Johnston schoolboy who drowned last week in the River Foyle close to the village. Brian, from Ard na Meala, was playing with two friends when the tragedy occurred. He was the second eldest child of Damien and Geraldine McDaid and was one of a family of four, aged between nine and 19. School friends formed a guard of honour as his coffin was carried from his home for Requiem Mass in St. Baithin’s Church, St. Johnston.
