A huge local auction has raised over 9,000 euro for charity.
The auction, in Tully’s Bar, Carndonagh, was held in aid of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Most of the auction items were gifted by local businesses.
Items on offer on the night included return flights to Paris, a break in Ballina and signed football shirts.
The most sought-after item of the night was a signed Liverpool shirt which went for a whopping 650 euro.
The auction was arranged by local families, Mary and Jimmy Mooney, from Malin, and Karen and Joe Lafferty, from Carndonagh.
Their sons – Liam Mooney (6) and Tony and Bobby Lafferty (seven and two) – have all been diagnosed with the condition
In March, Inish Times featured a front page story telling of the families’ devastation at a governement backtrack on providing critical funding into the condition.
Since the article was published, they have also been informed that their application to the Health Research Board (HRB) for joint funding has also been turned down.
They have launched a funding and awareness campaign and the auction was one of a number of proposed fundraising events.
They wish to thank Tully’s Bar for holding the auction and Stephen Lynch and Derek McLaughlin, the auctioneers on the night.
The next event will be a quiz night in Simpson’s Bar, Carndonagh on Tuesday, 20 May, at 10.30pm.
