Motorists driving in exposed hill regions of the peninsula have been urged to take extra care on the road because of wandering livestock. The Inish Times was contacted by a number of motorists who were concerned sheep on the main road from Buncrana to Carndonagh could cause a serious accident or be killed. One woman, who did not want to be named, said she was quite concerned by the number of sheep wandering the road. She said: “I drive on that road quite regularly and the number of sheep on it seems to have increased for some reason in recent times. I had no problem getting past them but I would like the warning to go out for everyone to take care.“There are some dangerous bends and blind spots and drivers approaching at speed could find it difficult to avoid them. There are no crash rails along the road so there is a danger in trying to avoid the animals they will end up going off the road or cross the road in the face of oncoming traffic.“I just hope that visitors to the area, who would not be too familiar with sheep on the road get to read this and they, too, will be able to take extra care.”
