Inishowen’s bathing beaches have retained their high standards with all four designated locations in the peninsula meeting European Union mandatory standard.
Another 15 beaches throughout Donegal also came up to standard. The county’s performance in last year’s report was not repeated throughout the country with 13 beaches, including four in Co. Dublin, not meeting the high standard. The Inishowen beaches are – Culdaff, Buncana, Lisfannon and Shroove. The report was welcomed by County Chemist, Donal Casey, who said every effort would made this year for a repeat performance.“This report refers to the water quality and as such does not refer to Blue Flag status which covers other infrastructural areas in and around the beach.”
