Beautiful weather
Glorious saunshine has bathed the area over the past ten days. Despite the frosty nights the bright days brought people outdoors to enjoy the calm pleasant weather conditions. It was a welcome respite to the strong winds and rain which has buffeted the area since the new year.
Sad death
The sudden death has taken place in Galway on January 28 of Joseph Doherty aged 64. Joseph had lived in Galway all his life. His funeral took place to St Mary’s Church, Lagg, where requiem mass was con-celebrated by Fr Brendan Crowley CC and Fr Tom Mullin. The Lessons were read by Joseph’s friends Cathy Caughan, Galway, and Martin Sweeney, Galway. The offertory gifts were presented by his nieces Mary Brown and Maggie McLaughlin. Music and singing during the ceremony was by Shunie Crampsey. Sympathy is extended to Joseph’s cousins, Mary Brown, Maggie McLaughlin and Hannah Doherty, all who live in Bree, his uncle Michael Doherty, Manchester, The McGuire Family, Manchester, and his uncle John Doherty and family, New York.
Dearly departed
The death has also taken place at his home on February 7 of Thomas Doherty, Muckla, Malin Head. Thomas was well known in Inishowen and beyond as a keen card player and for his prowess on the dance floor with his wife Mary Teresa. He was a fit man, walking along the shore near his seaside home, observing the tides and nature. He also enjoyed following his favourite football team.
His funeral took place to the Star of the Sea Church, Malin Head, where requiem mass was concelebrated by Fr Brendan Crowley CC and Fr Tom Mullin, his life-long friend, who officiated at his wedding.
The lessons were read by Thomas’ sons Eunan and Clinton Doherty. The prayers of the faithful were led by his nieces and nephews Gabrielle Hume, Pauline Moriarty, Niall Clarke, Kevin Clarke, Annemarie McLaughlin and Phil McLaughlin. The offertory gifts were presented by his granddaughters Áine and Aisling Doherty. Special Gifts were presented by David Doherty and Daniel Harkin. Music during the ceremony was by Trish Lafferty and Ann Byrne.
Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Mary Teresa, his children Clinton and Josephine, Eunan and Mandy, Sharon and Darren, Eamon and Karen, Nigel and Celia, Aidan and Mary, Ronan and Kelly; his grandchildren Áine, Aisling, David, Emma, Daniel, Niamh, Cian; his sisters; Mary B McLaughlin, Patricia Clarke, Margaret Dowling, and his extended family and friends.
School Enrolment
Enrolment forms are now available for the school year 2008/09. Forms should be collected from the school, completed and returned by this Friday, February 22.
School Reunion
Urblereagh National School will celebrate 150 years in existence this year 2008, and a grand reunion is planned for Wednesday, August 13. Let all your family and friends know as soon as possible to plan a return home for the occasion. If you have any photographs or good stories from your school days get in touch with the school or any of the parents.

Sports Field Draw
Malin Head Community Sports Committee run a Draw for a weekly prize of 500 euro. The draw on Sunday, February 17 was held in Farrens’ Bar and the lucky winner was Hugh Farren, Slieveban. Next week’s draw will be held in the Crossroads Inn.
RTÉ Radio change
RTÉ Radio will no longer transmit on medium wave from March 24, 2008. This service has brought the world into homes all over the country since 1926. RTÉ recommends that Medium Wave listeners return to RTÉ Radio 1 on FM. They sincerely regret the inconvenience caused by the closure of this service
Guest tea

Carndonagh Féis
Carndonagh Feis will be held this year on Friday, June 20, Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22. We look forward to another good year. Gardening club
Inishowen Gardening Club is having its next meeting on Monday, February 25 at 8pm in the Wesley Hall, Bridge Street, Carndonagh. Jo Fowler from the Farm Shop in Moville will be the guest speaker. She will give a talk and demonstration on Organic Gardening, Herbs, etc. All welcome.
Cancer meeting
The local meeting of Donegal Action for Cancer Care (DACC) will take place on Tuesday, February 26 at 7.30pm in the Wesley Hall, Bridge Street, Carndonagh. All welcome to come along to lend their support and to be updated on the activities of DACC.
Confirmation
Confirmation will be conferred on sixth class pupils in the Malin parish on Sunday, April 13 at 11am in St Patrick’s Church, Aughaclay.

Jobs fair
A Job Fair will take place in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel on Wednesday, March 5, from 10.30 am – 6.30 pm. Employers from Inishowen, Derry and Letterkenny who are looking for staff will be there. Umbra Collection
Supporting Education in Kitui: Clothing collection of all types of clean clothing, bed linens, curtains, towels shoes etc. Proceeds can be collected at each of the three church car parks on this Saturday, February 23 from 9am – noon. The Educational Institutions of Kenya depend on charitable donations to help them meet the running costs of their schools. This clothing collection programme is a very important factor in helping to raise the much needed funds for this educational project.
25 Card Drive
A Charity 25 Card drive will be held in Malin GAA Centre on Saturday, February 23 at 8.30pm. Two rounds at 10 euro per round including supper. All proceeds to Bothair to buy cows, goats and hens for poor African families. Prizes are bumper Easter hampers, Easter eggs and other prizes on the night.
Trocaire Lenten Fast
The 24-hour annual Trocaire lenten fast takes place from Friday, February 22 until Saturday, February 23 in an effort to highlight the needs of those who are in need. This annual fast can be undertaken by healthy individuals who subsequently contribute a financial contribution to their Trocaire box – the comparison of what the food they may have consumed for that period.
Senior Ladies GAA Training
Training for Senior Ladies is held on every Saturday at 5pm in the GAA Centre, Malin. All last year’s girls plus any new ladies welcome.
