Winter classes
Enrol for computer or digital photography classes in the Wesley Hall on a one-to-one basis. Also, make your own cards, paint a picture, save a life after learning a first aid course and much more. The following courses will commence over the next few weeks in the hall: card-making, intermediate art, advanced first aid and crafts. If you are interested in any of these courses, call 9329680 between 10am – 5pm, Monday – Friday. These courses are supported by Donegal VEC.
Going to the dogs
In aid of Alzheimer’s Society (Donegal) at Lifford Greyhound Stadium on Friday, March 7. Tickets and further information are available from Gertie Monagle and Mary Gillen, Carndonagh.
Parish news
Ash Wednesday masses at 8am and 8pm. Ashes will be blessed and distributed at these two masses and also at 3pm. During the rest of Lent, mass each day will be at 8am and 10am except Friday, which will be 8am and 8pm. There will be no extra mass on Saturday. Pilgrimage to Medjugorje
This is a combined tour on June 7 with four nights in Medjugorje and three nights in Gradac on the Adriatic coast. Flight is from Belfast to Dubrovnik. Pilgrimage to Rome
There are some places left on the Clonmany parish pilgrimage to Rome from April 20 – 27. The cost is 1,100 euro and includes Belfast to Rome return flights with Aer Lingus, transfers from Clonmany, Carndonagh and other points to Belfast and from Rome airport to the hotel, day trip to Assisi, free travel insurance, airport taxes and luxury air-conditioned coach for duration of tour. Special diocesan mass
The annual diocesan mass for those with special needs, their families and friends will take place in St Joseph’s Church, Galliagh, Derry on Saturday April 12, celebrated by Bishop Lagan. If you have a child who wishes to receive the sacrament of confirmation or first holy communion at this mass, please contact the Catechetical Centre on 048 71264087. Concerned about suicide
An information evening entitled Concerned about Suicide will be held in the City Hotel, Derry on Tuesday, February 19 from 7.30 –9.30pm. This has been organised by representatives from the four main Christian churches and will be lead by Barry McGale and Anne McGarrigle. All welcome.
Creative writing workshop
The writer Patrick Kearney will run introduction to creative-writing workshops for new and developing writers for ten weeks at Tullyarvan Mill, commencing Wednesday, February 6 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. The workshops are designed to support the writers to write prose and poetry and to develop their voice as writers. The writers will discuss the work of a variety of writers and explore opportunities towards publication of their own novels, short stories, memoirs and poetry with Donegal’s new book publisher. The Stoner’s Press is actively looking for emerging writers in Donegal to submit their writings for possible publication. Participation in the creative-writing workshops would place the writers and their material in direct contact with the publisher and maximise new opportunities for publication. Following the success of the Word Flight young people’s creative-writing project and publication, a young writers’ club for children aged ten to 14 years will also run at Letterkenny Central Library from Saturday, February 9, 11am to 12.45pm. A ‘good as new’ shop in aid of the destitute in India has opened in Bridge Street, Carndonagh. This is located in the basement next door to the Wesley Hall. GAA lotto results
The winning numbers in the club mini lotto were 13, 22, 16 and 20. There was no jackpot winner.
