An important meeting regarding the proposed downgrading of the Irish Coastguard Service in Malin Head will be held in the local Community Hall on this Sunday (January 27) at 4pm. The service is still known locally as the Radio Station, and it holds a pivotal role in the coordination of rescue services in the whole north of the country, extending south to Galway. Everyone is invited to attend.
Attention parents
A special course for parents or anyone who deals with children will be held in St Mary’s NS, Malin Head on Mondays from 10am – noon, starting on Friday, January 28 for seven weeks. The course ‘Storiessacks’ is about making props and aids to accompany stories. The course is free. For more information contact Maura on 086 6052424.
Parish Draw
The Parish Draw is starting up shortly so contact your local promoter to join in. For 7 euro per month you have the opportunity of winning some of the 20,540 euro that make up the prize money for the year. The draw is a great source of revenue for parish funds as facilities continue to be upgraded.
Ceili
Urblereagh National School will hold its Annual Ceili on Friday, February 8 in St Patricks Hall, Malin. Dancing from 10pm – 1am with music by the Cottage Ceili Band. Admission is 5 euro, including supper.
Sports Field Draw
Malin Head Community Sports Draw will be starting again at the beginning of February. There are only a few tickets left, and existing members will have first preference. Anyone wishing to join should contact Eunan Doherty or any member of the committee. Last date for entry is Thursday, January 31. The first draw will be held on Sunday, February 3 in Farren’s Bar for a weekly prize of 500 euro.

Golf Society AGM
Malin Head Golf Society will hold its annual general meeting this Friday, January 25 at 9pm in Farren’s Bar.
Parish savings
It’s not too late to join the parish savings scheme. It not only benefits the parish but also leaves contributors with a most welcome cheque come December. Contact your local collector if you wish to participate.
Blood needed
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service mobile unit team will be in the area this week. The service will attend at the usual venue at Carndonagh Community School on Wednesday, January 23 and Thursday January 24. The hours on Wednesday are 3–4.45p.m and 7–9.30pm. The hours on Thursday are 2–4.45pm and 7–9.30pm. Come along and donate a pint! Blood donors save lives.
Dinner Dance
Malin GAA annual dinner dance takes place on this Saturday 26 January in the Malin Hotel. Music is by Shunie and Hugh P. Tickets are 25 euro and are available from committee members. Order early to avoid disappointment.
Guest tea
Carndonagh Community School extends a very special welcome to the parents of former and current school pupils to a guest tea reunion to be held in the Sports Hall on Friday, February 22. Tickets are on sale from local former hostesses or contact the school. Telephone 9374260.
Gardening Club
The Inishowen Gardening Club will meet on Monday, January 28 in the Wesley Hall, Carndonagh at 8pm. The guest speaker this month is Sean Ó Gaothan, the head gardener in Glenveagh National Park, who will present ‘Gardens in Donegal’. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Youth Club
Malin Head Youth Club meets every Friday evening from 8–11pm in the Community Hall. Supervisors for this Friday, January 25 are Bridgeen Doherty, Linda Coffey and Gerard Doherty.
